About Me
I have been attracted towards motorcycles right from my early childhood. I always wanted to ride but never got a chance, as I used to stay in KSA and would come to India only during my vacations. Due to this, the thirst for riding kept growing more and more in my heart. It was during 2007, that I decided to move to India for my higher education. Now I could see my dream of riding come true. But I had to face a major problem. Though I had learnt driving a car, I didn’t know how to ride a motorcycle. So the first task for me was to learn riding. I started by riding my grandpa’s Bajaj Chetak, which wasn’t ridden much. I cannot explain the happiness which I felt, when I got to ride it for the first time. Initially, I wasn’t confident enough to ride it in the busy traffic of Hyderabad, but slowly and steadily I got the grasp of it. Since I didn’t have a license then, I didn’t use it to commute to college. But commuting by other means was time consuming, and I got fed up of it. Finally, I decided that I would take my scooter to college. That was the day, which was the turning point in my life, as it was the birth of the rider in me. I started enjoying riding, as it brought about a sense of freedom along with it. I could ride to any place that I wanted to. But the only problem with the scooter was its mileage. Due to this, my riding was restricted. After riding about 11,000 km on the scooter, I decided that it’s time to get a motorcycle. The options were many, but I selected Bajaj Platina as it offered the best mileage. It was a different joy altogether with the motorcycle, as I was able to ride a lot more. I started by visiting the nearby cities, and then gradually progressed towards riding 800-1000 km in a day. I mostly do ‘one day’ rides, as I don’t get permission at home for long rides. I have clocked 80,000 km on my bike in 3 years. My target is to cover 1, 00,000 km on it and go on an All India Ride.
Do I think I have contributed to the motorcycling community, however a
small way it may be?
I have transformed from a reckless and irresponsible kid, to a matured and responsible adult. Now I always follow the traffic rules, give way to others, and ride safely. I try to set an example for others to follow. I try to educate my friends about safety while riding. The credit for this goes to xBhp and other motorcycling clubs from where I got to learn a lot about safe riding.
How can I contribute more in the future to the motorcycling community?
I want to take up motorcycling as a career, so that I can reach to a greater audience and educate them about the various safety aspects of motorcycling. I would also want to educate parents about safe touring and remove their misconceptions, so that they can allow their children to go on rides. I also want more and more people to take up motorcycling as a career, and expand the horizons of motorcycling.
